My son loves Minecraft and has read his toddler Bibles over and over again so I thought this would be the perfect solution. I'm surprised how many theological liberties the authors took just in the first 10 pages. I've attached a photo of the first page saying how God started the world with a "big bang." The Bible never states this so why imply it?! Kids are impressionable and may take that as what's actually presented in the Bible. I do NOT recommend this book at all. It will only confuse children as to what the Bible does actually say.
In todays agnostic environment, I feared presenting this to my Grandson because his Dad is certain that what ails the world is religion. I disagree and so does his son. I think it is important for children to know about the Bible stories. After all Christianity IS our history and an integral part of our American culture. Now, so is Minecraft! What I have done to enhance the message is to identify the lessons (moral) of each chapter and correlate it back to the 10 Commandments. So, I typed up a little comment as to the criteria I just mentioned and inserted (like a bookmark) at the end of each chapter. Who would not want their child to understand the complexity and consequences of human emotions and how to appropriately control them.
Bought this for my eight year old daughter who is a Minecraft fiend. She loves it and it really makes the biblical stories interesting for her. Would highly recommend. (I will say though, some of the pictures are so weird to me. Christ crucified as a Minecraft character? Bizarre.)
My Minecraft-obsessed 8 yr old spotted this at a chain bookstore, and we turned to Amazon to save a little cash. What a fantastic way to get kids interested in bible stories! He has read this thing cover to cover a few times, and probably know more about the Bible than me and my 8 yrs of Catholic school education. My Aunt, who is a nun, even approved!
This leaves out tons of details of Bible stories, so it's best read by those who can fill in details during the reading. I wouldn't recommend this book to anyone. It was initially neat for my son that it looks like Minecraft, but he's just as interested in the stories coming from a regular Bible story book because the stories themselves are pretty fantastic. There are many misspellings, and the story about Ruth and Boaz is CHANGED for this book. Not just glossed over for younger readers, but actually changed. I don't want that in any Bible story book.
My kid LOVES this - we are not religious, no church, no prayers - yet he is telling me stories from the Bible and explaining who people were, etc. He is 6 1/2.
My son is obsessed with mine craft and absolutely loves this book - age 7. He has a lot of questions regarding the Bible and I hope this will help him understand better, he wants to read it on his own vs me making him read it which is great. The book seems to cover a lot of topics and it his a very large/thick book so its worth the money.
Although the stories are truncated a bit and don't include all the details, this is a great Bible for kids. I purchased for my 4 year old for Easter and he loves it. However, I also found my 12 year old secretly reading it too! If they love Minecraft, they will love this. Great idea!
