Not very helpful. It does not teach you pharmacology they way you should know it. If you want to have a strong foundation in pharmacology do not get this book. I have been using Katzung & Trevor's Pharmacology Examination and Board Review ( ISBN-13: 978-1259255335 ). I also own the textbook and yes is was written for medical students but it is a five star book. In my opinion Katzung is more straight forward and gets right to the point unlike the Woo text. If you are an NP student, trust me you will love Katzung, It really is an amazing book.
Let me start by saying I don't typically write reviews, however given the poor quality of this textbook I felt obligated to warn others. This book is full of contradictions, even as close as one to two paragraphs apart. There are numerous spelling errors and it is very difficult to follow, as the authors tend to jump all over the place. Numerous medications are spelled incorrectly throughout the book (for example see page 580 miglitol vs. meglitol, page 182 tamsulosin vs. tamulosin). Not a huge deal but it is very annoying. If this wasn't a required text I would have requested a refund after reading chapter one. My apologies to the authors, but perhaps another edition would bring with it improvements.
The online resourses are a waste of time, a few case studies and 5 videos that will not work. The book is poorly written and organized. The first page of the introduction tells how patients would rather go to nurse practitioners than physician assistants because NPs spend more time teaching. I work with 3 wonderful PAs, who all encouraged me to persue my NP, why would you write about your peers in such a way. I continually have to research my own material to ensure I have the most current information as I have found many of their resources over 20 years old, one was over 30 years old. I had to waste my money on this book because it was a requirement for my class.
Online resources are terribly lacking. Power points and practice questions are locked away under an instructor code. The text itself has very few illustrations with mid-1990's graphics. Quality text books use illustrations to enhance and promote learning. Bullet points and margin notations for emphasis. An endless list of techniques to promote assimilation of material. The reader is clunky and miserable. I will avoid all future Davis purchases. Glad I rented this instead of buying it, however it is unlikely to be even worth the rental price.
This book is very poorly written. It is very disorganized and does not present the information in a clear way. There are also discrepancies in the information presented in different chapters.
TERRIBLE! Confusing. It's informative at first, then the sections just mentions many other drugs and things to note randomly all throughout, not organized well at all
I hate textbooks, and I hate physical textbooks even more. I had to order a physical textbook because my graduate program required it if I wanted to use it for open book (yay) quizzes and tests. However, for reading personally I would rather lug around my computer than a ten pound textbook and with the new copy of this book, I got an access code that allowed me to download the ebook via vitalsource bookshelf for much less than the price of the e-book. I also received the book with one day shipping. I find it pretty easy to read along as well.
Only purchased this textbook as a requirement of my graduate pharmacology course and it is one of the most difficult resources I have used. Information just doesn't seem to be presented in a straightforward manor and I'm left feeling like I have to interpret what the authors are trying to teach me like it's another language. I purchased additional resources that are MUCH better at explaining concepts. If given another option I would not pick this text.
